le rapport que je dois écrire avance tout doucement, mais bon c'est pas évident de construire des belles phrases en anglais, je vous mets quelques photos des experiments qu'on a mené, à l'extérieur c'est le field experiment, et sous serre le pot experiment.
sample of pot experiment : stems, leaves, roots, below stems, of three crops : maize, bean and sunflower
washing of the roots : believe me it's horrible, very long, and pot soil is more difficult to wash than sandy soil !!
field experiment : split plot design (I have never heard about different ways of designing an experiment before here !! :S) two crops : Yellow mustard (Sinapus alba L.) and Fodder rape (Brassica napus ssp. oleifera (Metzg.) Sinsk.)
harvest of the field exp : you can see my back and my two mates, Innocent from Rwanda and Mulatu from Ethiopia
the separation of the plants part after the harvest : my group is behind this one, and in front of the picture you can see erwin, pascaline, meng and kassaye (from right to left)
angela, martine, and evelien (from right to left)
the green house with our beautiful pots :)) in the first row, the guard pots (to have the same environment for each pot, we have to put an extra row that will be thrown away after, the guard pots)euh désolée pour les légendes des photos en anglais, des fois je commence des phrases en anglais pour me rendre compte qu'il faudrait que je parle en français... euh vous me suivez? je pense que l'immersion prolongée au sein de données expérimentales me fait tourner la tête... :D
2. Materials and methods
2.1 Experimental set-up
The field experiment was carried out in the experimental field of the plant science research of Haarweg in Wageningen (Netherlands), in the northern part of Zandtuin west (19.5*49.5=965.25m2). The soil in this area is sandy. The experiment was conducted from 23 July 2007 (sowing date) till 12 September 2007 (harvest of the plots).
The aim of the experiment was to study the effect of sowing density on the development and the early growth of two manure crops, Yellow mustard (Sinapus alba L.) and fodder rape (Brassica napus ssp. oleifera (Metzg.) Sinsk.).
The factors studied are the type of green manure crop, and the sowing density. Two crops were choose, and three levels of sowing density : 6, 12, and 18 kg ha-1.
The design choose was split plot design, because it was easier to have the same crop in the same area for the sowing. Seven blocks where created in the fields, and the main factor of randomization was the crop specie (Appendix I). So there was 7 replications at the beginning, but at the time of harvesting the first block was showing too many differences that were not explained by the experiment but by the history of the field, so this block was dropped. Each block was separated from the other by a big path, and a smaller path separated the plots between themselves. The size of the plot was 7 m*1.25 m (8.75 m2), and there was 10 rows so 12.5 cm spacing between rows. The net gross plot was 2.5 m2 (12.5 spacing rows *4 rows * 5 meters long).
